“The words we choose to describe illness are powerful” (Khullar’s.) I feel as though this is a very powerful quote in the beginning of the essay. This not only helps to frame the upcoming topic but is also a very insightful way to break down the basic purpose of a metaphor.
“Metaphors are a fundamental mechanism through which our minds conceptualize the world around us, especially in the face of complexity.” (Khullar’s.) This backs up my understanding of metaphors, I view a metaphor as a way to make information more understandable and accessible for everyone. Metaphors take complex topics and make them digestible.
“But the magnitude of the metaphor effect was larger than pre-existing differences of opinion between liberals and conservatives” (Khullar’s.) Shows the effectivness of a metaphor. Metaphors, when used in a positive way can effect the way a person views something along with their mindset, which directly relates to how metaphors could possible be used to cure sicknesses.
“At the end, the floor will be covered with the blood of failed comparisons” (Erard.) I feel like this is important to highlight, metaphors are a very effect tool in the english langauge, but that does not mean that they are always effect. Due to their simple nature they have the possibility to have a negative impact.
“Metaphor matters because it opens the door to discovery” (Geary.) This is very important to highlight, this is a very simple way to describe exactly what a metaphor is. The point of a metaphor is to open to so that everyone can understand.
This was really good, but I think you could add more detail to when explaining why you chose these quotes. Just needs a little bit more detail. Maybe bring in a past experience if you had one with that type of quote or not.
