Both global and local revisions, while they may be different are both equally important to the writing process and to developing a working paper. Global revisions are big changes to the paper such as moving around your sentences, changing your claim or rewriting ideas. Local revisions consist of smaller things such as spelling or grammar errors. In this class revision has been emphasized as a crucial part of the writing process and I have noticed that it has made my writing significantly better. In specific while writing my Mental Illness and Art essay I found myself having a hard time connecting to the prompt, and I feel when a writer has a hard time connecting to the prompt it leaves more room for improvement when revising. In my first draft of my paper I had developed a claim that did not fit to my writing, I wrote this claim and then proceeded to write my whole paper not answering the claim I presented but instead through my writing I developed a different claim. When I went back through I determined that my claim needed to be changed, which can be considered a global revision because changing the claim of the paper is a major revision that changes the entire paper as a result.

Once I was able to create a prompt that made more sense with my writing I was able to add more paragraphs because there was new ideas to be supported. Local revisions are just as important as the global revisions so I then went through and corrected any spelling errors or sentences that didn’t make sense. I find that oftentimes a sentence will make perfect sense in my head and while I am writing it but once it is on paper it no longer makes sense. Revision allows me to go back through and fix those sentences that may make sense to me as a writer but may not make sense to the reader. I feel like I have developed as a writer through this course because prior to coming into english 110 I was hesitant to revise, I never wanted to reread through my papers I thought once my writing was done it was done. Through global and local revisions which I gained strength in through this course I have been able to create much stronger papers.
