Personally Geary’s TedTalk brought a new perspective of metaphors to me, I have never looked at the topic on such a deep level before but I think that it has deepened my understanding of metaphors. Geary states that “metaphor gives us a much more vivid understanding.” Which I do, now agree with. I believe that many times metaphors are looked at as just a round about way to say something, possibly to give it layer. However metaphors can truly be a way to break down a topic or an understanding so that it can be understood on deeper levels. I feel my second “conversation” with Geary about “Life is a garden vs. Life is a roller coaster” I could think about deeper because of his first reading. Language is so much more than surface level, so much more than that actual words that may be on the paper.
